Organized by the Hong Kong Jewellers’ & Goldsmiths’ Association and sponsored by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the World Gold Council, the sixteenth Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition 2016. Twenty winning designs were announced at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 3rd March 2016.
The competition aimed to stimulate the creativity and raise the standard of craftsmanship of the Chuk Kam jewellery industry, in order to meet the market demand, promoting Chuk Kam jewellery through innovative designs. The competition was divided into Open Group, Fashionable 18K Group and Student Group. All groups are expected to design concept of “Gold 4.0 – Innovate outside of the box; Inspire the heart and soul” of World Gold Council on the three themes: “ Renewed Traditions”, “Time and Tides” and “Future Construction”
Near 170 design sketches were received, all of which went through a preliminary screening on 10th September 2015. Short listed entries were made into products and they were judged for the final round on 12th January 2016.
The judging panel comprised of 5 judges, including Mr. Jason Cheung, Head of Creative Department of HKTDC; Mr. Albert Cheng, Managing Director, Far East of WGC; Mr. Lawrence Ma, Founding President, Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited,. Mr. Ho Pak Tao, Honorary President, MH, Hong Kong Jewellers’ & Goldsmiths’ Association and Mr. Raymond Chan Architect.
Entries were judged according to their practicability and potentials to stimulate the Chuk Kam jewellery market, their flexible use of the properties of Chuk Kam, creativity, craftsmanship and attractiveness.
Winning designs will be displayed in the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show 2016 from 3rd to 7th March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
